How exactly does fortune telling work?

Any costume/makeup advice for gypsies?

Fortune Telling is purely role-play. Because we can't predict the future in real life, it would be hard to pull off IG, too.

This is not to say it can't be a lot of fun to play out. Pick a method - cards, palm readng, runes, tea leaves, etc., and study it OOG. I've been reading cards for years, and people like the scenes - I use no skills or mechanics when I do, it's pure Role Play, but a lot of people have told me I am creepily accurate.

Gypsies are more than just the jingling bits. They can be colorful entertainers or dirty vagrants. The style in which you should almost speak out about the kind of life you live. Some of the costuming pieces could even have meaning related to superstitions.

Why does he wear that bracelet of bells? Because the noise keeps the hungering shadows away.

Why does he refuse to wear red? Red is a color only those who have seen death wear, and to otherwise do so invites it in.

Why does he wear purple? ...Because its Carlos and we really just don't question him anymore.

as a nomadic sort of person, your outfit should partially exemplify that fact. But this is just my thoughts. Ask around and get the input of multiple people!

Thank you gentlemen. All of that was very insightful. I think the fortune teller aspect could be a lot of fun to roleplay. I have two different ideas for my costume. I'll try and post pics on here soon to get some feedback.

Steve is partially correct; Gypsies can be played in many ways, not just goofy and flamboyant entertainers, they can be strange and culturally reclusive and secretive as well and they can be thrifty artisans.

The one thing they have in common: they're all dirty vagrants.

Both work - you can also be somewhere in between. A lot depends on your history. Are you from a wealthy family? Were you abandoned, or a loner? Do you want to attract attention, or avoid it?

RP guidelines from the rulebook are as follows: "Gypsies usually where brightly colored clothing and anything garish and attention grabbing as accessories. They also like to festoon their clothes with bells or other noisemakers, the better to remind everyone of their presence."

What's important is your cultural identity. You're not just a plain human - you are Gypsy. Show it.
