ALT Event Character Creation (Please Read)

Hello everyone! This is the post detailing how to deal with Character Creation for the Alt event this year. Im going to lay out a list below of can’s and can not’s.

Character Choices

- Can play any of your own PCs if they existed within the first Four Years of the game (Cut off is the end of 2002)
- Cannot play another person’s character without Plot Discretion. You cannot ask for plot discretion, you will be asked if this is desired
- Cannot choose Londwynian, Sylph
- Can choose Oaf/Troglodyte/Minotaur (send an e-mail to if you are planning to play one of these.)
- Cannot worship Glomm. He does not exist.
- May worship the demon Ramular using the following prayer set: Sacrament, Darkness, Destruction, and Corruption Holy Word:Lothus, Insidius, Defilus, Maladon
- Evil is accepted as a necessary (but supposed to be uncommon) component of town.
- Just because the above are now options doesn’t mean you should play them… it would be weird if Travance was founded by an army of Evil Troglodytes worshiping Ramular…

Character Submission
- Send your character submissions to
- If you send in your character build submission by Monday, March 25th, please send in your character builds at Level 1 (10 Build), Level 3 (30 Build), and Level 7 (70 Build). If you do not send your character submission in by the 25th, then your build will be level 1 (10 Build), 3 (30 Build), and 5 (50 Build) instead. This is meant to promote early submission so that most cards can be taken care of prior to the event, as it will make sign in faster, easier, and less stressful on everyone.
- If you are in this 100% for the RP and are too new to want to write up three level of stats, send us all the basic character info minus your stats and well fill your stats in for you.
- Below is an example of how you should submit your character build:

ok quick question though it may make me sound stupid. for the levels its cumulative build right so for level 3 it should be 20 build added to the 10 you previously spent to add up to 30 right? or is it straight up 30 more build. sorry if my wording is confusing.

You are correct. The build quantities mentioned is your new total.

For rogue characters, will it be worth the build to buy Fence?

would we have to consider penalized professions? (as in the extra 5 build)?

Can we also play our alt characters (15 years older) at the turn of the event after main mod?

Yes, the fence will be worthwhile.
No, races can not start as a penalized profession.
Yes, you may continue to play the character.

I'm not going to be there but I know a few people were considering scholar. If I remember correctly, we didn't have the library originally so all the books and codices wouldn't be there at the alt event, correct?

A clarification on continuing to play your character after the alt portion of the event:

The character you play can not be a currently active character in the game unless you, the player, actually played that character within the first four years of the game. This option is only available to newly created characters that are not Troglodytes, Minotaur, and Oafs. As well, you must still gain approval to play restricted races going forward as always.

Remember, this character was someone who came to during this early time period, but didn't show up in the spotlight like many other characters in the proper. So if you intend to continue to play this character, having a good reason what they have been doing for the last 15 years in the Barony of Travance is highly encouraged.

To add to Steve's ruling:

The least confusing and most unobtrusive reason for not being around since the founding would be that your PC, after arriving with the first settlers, just went and lived a normal life of little to no consequence somewhere in one of the baronies until Jonathan Travance pulled everyone into his memories. This makes the most sense due to your still low level despite the span of time that has occurred. Anything else more complicated should probably be run by a storyteller ahead of time, or at least at the event, for the sake of continuity in order to avoid confusion.


JJ - There will be a library In-Game, but I am not sure on its exact contents.

I'm still confused - if you continue to play the alt character after the timey-wimey portion is complete, does that mean just for the remainder of the event, or would these be valid characters to play going forward?

You could only continue playing that ALT character if it is made into a real normal event character - in that case, yes, you could continue to play the character at future events.

If I played this alt character at the alt event at 7th level, would I be allowed to continue to play this character at 7th level after the alt event or would I (in making it into a real normal event character) be forced to transform him back down to starting level 1?

Just like every other alt event where we have allowed this, you would have to remake the character back at level 1.

For the sake of ease, if you intend to continue playing this character after the alt event portion, please consult any of the STs or James directly about the details of the character to ensure you are on the right track.

If your character is a Restricted Race (such as Dark Elf) What does that mean if you want to continue the character in a normal event setting?

As in past alt events, does anything our alt character collect (money, essences etc) transfer over to our PC when we come back to "our time"? Will the weapons you roll be alt even specific as before?

Can we use past Alt Event Items (the blue cards) if we have them?
