I just want to be clear. Unless you submit your character history with a bribe that would make the Mayor of Chicago blush, this kind of history will simply never be approved:

An example would be if you want your character to be in command of a legion of 10,000 troops; you'd need to get that approved first.

A realistic example of what James is talking about is if you want your character to be the daughter of a knight. The background confers no advantage upon the character, but it's still something that should be approved because the day might come that your character might try and use her father's good name to her advantage. If you say something like that and haven't submitted your history and received approval, that's the sort of thing that will get you a Rules Violation. If you try and throw out a whopper like James' example, we'll just beat you with rubber hoses...

If in game the character makes a claim ( such as she is the daughter of a knight) as a bluff for her advantage is that going to incur a rules violation as long as the player isnt trying to convince someone OOG that it is true? I don't think this was the intent as characters are and always have been allowed to lie.

The rules violation will be applied if you are Out of Game attempting to assert that in game you have something that has not been approved. For example, claiming you are an owner of a major Bedouin trading guild to try and impress someone as a total bluff is ok (because frankly, someone can just do their homework and find out your lying, or realize quite quickly no trade guild owner in their right mind would show up without a cadre of guards and a suit of full plate).

However, if you wish to claim that you own a massive 80 gun galleon that you can ferry people around the world in conveniently docked in some hidden cove nearby, and tell people that you can take them places between events, you had better get approval (and for a 80 gun galleon, good luck chump) or else you will be hit with a rules violation.

The point of these policies is to ensure that the game remains consistent and that an individual character doesn't just rewrite history for the sake of making their character uber. Getting approval will always be better than not, and if you get approval, you will likely receive constructive feedback that will help fit your character into the existing world dynamics.

So any email you received saying it was approved prior is nil and has to be resubmitted?

Well for whatever reason, the above are the only histories we have on file. We are now putting the histories we get in a place where they cannot be lost.

If your history was approved already there is a 99.99% chance that, that will not change, however if it is not listed above than we do not currently have it on file.

I just received about 5 more histories. I am going to be updating the list on Thursday so if you get it to me by then ill put it up. Otherwise I will start updating the list about once a month afterwards.

I done wrote a character history, but the only word-processing program on my computer is Microsoft Works.  I cannot open the downloadable character history forms in that program.  May I just e-mail a character history on regular e-mail?

If you want Microsoft Word but don't want to pay for it, try Open Office. It's an open source alternative to the Microsoft Office suite that can read and open the same files as the Microsoft Office suite.

or you could save as an .rtf file which should be able to be opened by whichever processing program you use.

I'm not sure that the Rich Text Format is specifically designed to handle tables properly.

The simplest solution, from my perspective, is to send things with Gmail, and maybe even create them in Google Documents.  That way, whoever receives it will have the option to view it as a simple HTML document, which is, of course, universal.
