Thank you for the warm welcome! We have been going over the rules. Is there somewhere where what weapons can be made of re listed. For instance is a staff supposed to be padded the whole length or only striking areas? Is their a foam thickness requirement? what kinds of cores are allowed?

Padding we'd prefer down the whole length, if there is a single spot where you would use your hand(for example a swords handle), then that's fine. But staves are used with multiple grips and in that case it should be padded the entire way down.

thank you for the link. sorry to be a pest. we make our own gear and want to start working on weapons. (see Marcia Kay Art on facebook) It mentions duct tape but i see in your photos latex weapons. can i use latex on the striking surfaces instead for instance on my staff after I am done carving the foam coating it with latex and then painting the entire thing? don't want to make our gear and have it fail on arrival

The important thing is if it is safe to fight with. That's why even professional weapons aren't approved until we see them.

I read the link and really would prefer not to use ductape. Is carving and latex usage or plastadip allowed instead of ductape?

Yes. Provided it passes safety inspection.

That is the most important thing. That it's safe.

Also keep in mind this question: Would you be okay getting hit with that weapon?
