Paladins

Hello,

Can someone please explain to me what a Paladin is? I've never met one before this passed Baronial Feast. What are they? What do they do? What does it mean to be one? I apologize for rambling but I'm confused. Some have told me they're part of the Light Church and I've heard that Arawyn herself chose these folks to be her champions. I even heard a rumor that they've something to do with the foulness of magics. All I know is that they can use the 'light' and are good with swords.

My own knowledge of them is limited, but I can say they are not formally part of the Church of Light.

As I understand it, they exist as paragons that stand above our worldly concerns and champion the very concept of Good, without bias or seeing that Good as part of their own agendas. The rest is apparently a secret only one who is judged worthy learns, or perhaps the secret is only the worthy can understand the secret.

Their history in Kormyre is actually somewhat sad. Originally they stood as protectors and respected advisers, until a corrupt King dishonored their pact. In so doing the King made war against the resistant Paladins and they became secretive and reluctant to show themselves while still championing Good. The King who succeeded the corrupt one begged the Paladins to return, however, in their exile the Paladins found that they could work more effectively concealed as they were than out in the open. So it remains today.

This may be just a rumor, but wasn't the previous Lord of Pendarvin, Ardentfyre a Paladin? ANd sure he used magics, but he was a good man. I'd follow him into battle any day.

Having been an Acolyte to the Order which Magnus speaks of, I'd be happy to answer any questions about the Paladins. The secrets aren't all that difficult to understand, and their history is different from what Aldric has written.

If I may, at this coming feast I would very much like to speak with each of you at different times and ask one specific question. Of course it may lead to other questions but so far just a single question for each of the paladins of both dark and light would be nice.

Lori, it might be best if you spoke to Sir Magnus, Sir Cinder if he is in the proper, or another following their path.

The form of the questions will be such to honor the secrecy necessary to keep that organizations secrets. The fact that we have former, current and other types is a wonderful balance already. I am very excited for this. Please let me know when each of you, who have volunteered for these interviews, will be available during feast. If the gentlemen in question do not mind an observer I have no issue with a single persons presence as witness. You may be just the person to insure a fair and equal representation in the article from the various gentlemen but you should be present for each interview if you wish to do this.

Sadly none of these persons came to speak in the matters of Paladin. I do realize the insanity of activities however I did keep myself available as much as possible. Sadly this means there will be no article forthcoming regarding this topic in the Chronicle next month. Perhaps another time.
